We understand you are considering inviting a loved one to perform your wedding ceremony. While that is a wonderful way to honor them and include them in your day, we ask you to consider these points:

  • Are they comfortable with a microphone – especially in the wind?
  • Will they have the proper windproof book/folder/device and be able to manage everything?
  • Are they familiar with elements of a ceremony: including unity, readings, prayers, aspects, traditions, incorporating children, pets? Can they dig deeper, find out options and tweak them to fit the couple and not be “cookie-cutter”?
  • Do they have knowledge and access to the vast amount of ceremony material which is available?
  • Do they have writing/ editing skills and the ability to ad lib and to personalize and give the ceremony a flavor of the couple?
  • Are they able to withstand the heat without wilting and read in bright sunlight?
  • Are they familiar with the logistics and traditions of all cultural/non-cultural weddings, music and timing cues, handling rings, announcements?
  • Are they flexible and can they “wing” it and “go with the flow”?
  • What about: managing the rehearsal, explaining the processional and recessional and coordinating with the photographer and DJ, arriving early, communicating with the planner,
  • Do they project and present, able to follow the flow, look  up and around and know when to step out of the way of the camera?
  • Will they make sure everything is proofread, approved and printed out in a presentable and keepsake manner well ahead of schedule, including vows, if applicable.
  • Lastly, do they know how to process the license?

With over  11 years of officiating experience, we access these skills and tools (and many more) when performing weddings. It would be our pleasure and honor to share this professional advice with your loved ones to ensure your ceremony is polished and seamless.

To do so, we offer a 30-minute call or Video call with your selected officiant followed by a written summary/checklist. The nominal fee for this service is $200. Additional time/assistance is available upon request.

Consultations are strictly remote, and do not include samples or original writing.

If you have already paid the consulting fee and decide that you would prefer our full service, the fee will be prorated towards Ceremony by Kat’s full service price.

A link to Kat’s schedule with Zoom details will be sent with your receipt for this transaction.
